Part 28: Cold Partners

Away from the clearing, Piglet and Clover walked in silence.  In the distance the faint sound of heffalumps crying out in anger could still be heard.  The lizard was gone for now.  Clover held the tail over her shoulder while biting her lip.  Walking behind Clover, Piglet took out his pipe and started searching his pockets for a match.  Looking to Clover’s stoic walk, he placed his pipe back under his coat.

“A Thesaurus”  Piglet said, breaking the silence.

“What?” Clover didn’t turn to look at him.

“The lizard, it’s a Thesaurus.  A black lizard that lurks in the hundred acre kingdom.  There aren’t many, but the ones that exist have been known to stalk Piglet campings.  There were two that would sneak into my village-”

“Never leave your partner behind!”  Clover shouted back.

Piglet stopped walking for a moment and took a deep breath.

“Forgive me, I should have come to your aid as soon as you called.”

Clover stopped walking for a moment and looked ahead.  The cold in the air had gone down since she took the tail.  The snow had stopped and a faint air blew between them.

“It’s fine.”  Clover looked back to Piglet.  “Just remember, we travel together so we can help each other.”

They continued walking together.  A chill in the air remained with them as they made their way back to the Eeyore.

Part 27: Escape

After his moment of thought, Piglet’s mind snapped back and he rushed to the heffalumps.  The beasts were too heavy for him to take down and their bodies would take no damage from any weapon he knew of.  The one way Piglet knew to take down a heffalump was to use it’s weight against itself.  He leaped on the nearest one and grabbed on to the tusk.  The mammoth swung its head to fling piglet off and rammed its side into the heffalump nearby.  As they started to knock heads becoming angrier with each other, Piglet jumped to Clover and ran with her just as the giants fell to the ground with a loud metal clang.

Part 26: Cornered

Gripping the tail in one hand and her dagger in the other, Clover readied herself for the approaching heffalumps. Immediately she knew going against them would be impossible. Their mechanical bodies gave no signs of a weakness. She called out to Piglet who was still fighting the dark lizard. At first he didn't seem to hear her. The second time she called he looked back as the lizard started to run off. For a moment he looked from her to the lizard, frozen in his tracks. As the heffalumps prepared to trample her, she watched Piglet, wondering if he would leave her for the lizard. In that instance, Clover felt the world about to sink away.
